SPD 3159 Food: Bing Sutt Corner

Today, I would like to bring you to Starbucks. You may think that it is nothing special because I go Starbucks frequently and I can find Starbucks anywhere. However, this Starbucks give you a great surprise. You can look at the photos first.

You may not believe that you are in Starbucks but I don’t deceive you. This Bing Sutt Corner is located in Central. It features a flashback of 1950s- 70s nostalgic Hong Kong café. In 1950s-70s, people like to go to Bing Sutt (Ice Room), they could take a break and enjoy coffee, iced beverages and food. In this Bing Sutt corner, you can not only enjoy the food in Starbucks store, but also the traditional food like the rustic bun with thick cut butter and egg tart.
rustic bun with thick cut butter

When you enter the corner, you will think that you are in 50s -70s because it is decorated as same as the Bing Sutt.  You can see there is a sign - "內有雅座" . The Sign means that seats are available. Most of the Bing Sutts have this sign to attract people to come.

Actually, it is hard to find Bing Sutt in Hong Kong as people like to go to fast food shops and western restaurants. They may forget the traditional restaurants. This Bing Sutt Conern brings a lot of memory of  "Ice house" to all of you!

Let me give you a tips, remember to take your camera since you may see many things that you haven't  seen before!^^

SPD 3159 Food: Surstromming! DO YOU WANT TO TRY?

today, i want to share to you something interesting

Surstromming!

Surströmming (pronounced [ˇsʉːʂtrømːiŋ], "soured (Baltic) herring"), known colloquially as Scandinavian rotten fish, is a northern Swedish dish consisting of fermented Baltic herring. It is similar to kusaya. Similar fish is made world wide. Surströmming is sold in cans, which often bulge during shipping and storage, due to the continued fermentation. When opened, the contents release a strong and sometimes overwhelming odour, which explains why the dish is often eaten outdoors. (copyed from WIKI)

i really want to try it!
anyone know where can i find it in HK?
if you find it,we can eat  together :)

SPD 3159 Food : Tachi Gui 立食

Yesterday, my friend and I went to a Japanese restaurant which is called Tachi Gui. It locates at No.73 Tung Choi Street, Mong Kok, Kowloon. It was my first time to have my dinner there. It is a Japanese head chief authentic ramen noodles restaurant.

It is a small size of restaurant. It can only cable for around 30-40 customers. The decoration of this restaurant is tidy and clean. There are many photos of Japanese Tachi Gui ramen branch and a large sheet of JR map on the wall.
There has only one waitress of this restaurant. Although the serving speed is slow, their service quality is good.   I think the waitress of this restaurant is very nice. She can only speak very little Cantonese. You can communicate her with English. Thus, make sure you speak English while you ordering the food=]
The price of the food is not too expensive. It cost around HKD$50 per person. This restaurant won’t charge you the 10% service fee.
This is the menu:

I have ordered the Tonkatsu Pork Chop Curry Rice 吉列黑豬扒咖哩and my friend have ordered Sanuki Tempura Ramen 讚歧天婦. It is tasty and delicious. Yummy!!

Their ramen is the most delicious food in there.  There have a very high standard of food here. The soup of the ramen is fresher and healthy that it does not heavy oil smell.
I highly recommend you to go there to try their ramen.

SPD3159 Food - Warmest Winter - HotPot

Weather this week has changed quickly, most people who usually eat frozen food such as yoghurt, Japanese cuisine have switched to have a sweet hotpot with a group of family or friends.
Why people prefer Hotpot?
Imagine that you place many kinds of food on the table, you can pick what you most prefer upon your Like & Dislike. Besides convenience, your body temperature will naturally warm up because you cook and eat together. Additionally, you are given a number of soup broth to meet the HK greedy eaters.

Chicken Broth 雞湯底
Pig's Bone Broth 豬骨湯底
Satay Broth 沙爹湯底
Preserved Egg & Chicory Broth 皮蛋莧茜湯底
Hot & Spicy Szechuan Broth 四川麻辣湯底
Fish Broth 魚湯底

This is Spicy Broth, the chilli is emerging from the soup,
I am really mouth-watering now!
Chilli definitely stimulates your all appetite, Try it!

Hotpot is especially popular in Hong Kong, some restaurants sell only hotpot and some Chinese restaurants provide both dinner dishes and hotpot as well. You can choose a restaurant of "All-You-Can-Eat" in a fixed price or order dish by dish. In my view, the food quality of Dish-by-dish seems more freshly than All-You-Can-Eat when all-u-can-eat price ranges $100-$150.

Below shows a list of Hotpot restaurants in Kowloon, you can take a glance before go.
Kowloon:
Prince Edward - 春夏秋冬火鍋
Hung Hom - 老坑火煱
Tsim Sha Tsui - 小肥羊
Jordon - 合興火煱
Cheung Sha Wan - 金湯鍋小菜料理

Of course you can choose "Tao Heung" (稻香), "Tak Hing" (德興), "Tanyoto Hotpot" (譚魚頭)which widely spread in Hong Kong for sure!

Next round, I am going to introduce one.

SPD 3159 Food: Frozen yogurt

Many people especially women love yogurt very much. They believe that yogurt is not only nutritionally rich is protein, calcium and vitamin but also it helps to smoother digestive transit. It is a good food when you are on diet. Thus, yogurt is most people’s favorite food, including me. HaHa! Yummy! In Hong Kong, it is easy to find yogurt shops anywhere because eating yogurt has become a trend.

Two days ago, I went shopping with my friends in Mong Kok. I found that there is a yogurt shop and I would like to introduce its yogurt to you. The shop called Yoppi.

Every day, there are two favors of yogurt for you to choose, for examples, Lime Tart, green apple tart, lychee tart and peach etc.

After ordering the favor of yogurt, you can choose toppings like fruits, chocolate chips, mochi and almond Roca Mix. However, many of the toppings were sold out when I bought it.

Look! This was my yogurt! Passion fruit tart with strawberry mochi and chocolate chips. It costs $22.

I like eating frozen yogurt very much because it tastes sour.It can stimulate my appetite. Also,I feel cool  when i eat frozen yogurt, especially in summer.

For more details, you can visit the official website of yoppi: http://yoppiyogurt.com/

SPD3159 Food: Old School Hong Kong Cafe Style Restaurants - Lan Fong Yuen蘭芳園

Lan Fong Yuen蘭芳園
Lan Fong Yuen is established around 50 years ago as a "Dai Pai Dong"(street side food stall) in Central, and later turned into a "Tea Cafe", which is a prominent style of Hong Kong restaurants. With their delicious and popular food, the restaurant is crowned as "the most delicious tea cafe" by many people in Hong Kong.
Highly recommended you to go there and try the famous silky milk tea. Although the seats aren't most comfortable at all, you can enjoy the environment that is typical for old school Hong Kong cafe style restaurants. It’s a good place for experiencing Cantonese culture and style of cuisine.
The restaurant has been famous for their "silky milk tea"(絲襪奶茶) and "pork-chop buns" (豬扒包) for all these years. Until recent years, they invented another delicious dish, the "mixed instant noodles" series, and it is a huge success. It is so popular that many other Tea Cafes follow their style and begin to provide this kind of "mixed instant noodles" as well.

SPD 3159 Food: Japanese Buffet -Murakami Teppanyaki Japanese Restaurant 村上鐵板日本料理

Last Thursday was my friend’s birthday. We had Japanese buffet in Mong Kok in order to celebrate her birthday. We chose a Japanese restaurant called Murakami Teppanyaki Japanese Restaurant. It is near the ladies market. We arrived there around 6: 45p.m. because if we arrived before 7p.m, there was a special price. The price could be reduced 10 dollars per person.

There are a variety of food, sashimi, snacks appetizers, hot pot, U-don, rice, skewer, tempura, gilled, Sushi, hand roll, etc.

We ordered a lot of sashimi, like salmon, octopus, shrimp and squid and herring. They were fresh and in thick- slice.

They are the chicken wing skewer, gestle skewer, chicken meat skewer, sausage and cherry tomato. We thought that the gestle skewer was a little bit hard. However, if your teeth are healthy, you can try. Actually they tasted good.

What is more, we ordered these foods too.

Let’s give some ratings to this restaurant in terms of food, service, environment and price.

Food:★ ★ ★ ★
Service:★ ★ ★
Environment:★ ★ ★
Price:★ ★ ★ ★

( 5 ★ is the highest score)

I thought that the food in this Japanese restaurant is quite delicious. The food was made immediately when they receive any orders so they were fresh. Moreover; there were over 100 choices for you to choose. As for drinks, you can order as much as you can. You can choose Coca, Sprite, Rebina, beer and sake etc.

The service is average, they sometimes missed our orders. However, the waiter or waitresses were polite.

The restaurant was clean but there were many people. Therefore, it was a little bit noisy.
The price is reasonable. It costs $159.5 including 10% service charge. There is good news for the birthday boy and girl. If there are 4 to 7 people, you can enjoy the half – price offer.

SPD3159 Food: 愛文生 - cont. Dai Pai Dong

You can simply be awareDai Pai Dong gradually fades out and is forbidden by government in recent years. This can be due to the reason that people nowadays emphasise on Health and Hygiene; therefore, the traditional street stall along the street cannot be found easily compared as before.

Referring to the blog dated 15th Oct, “Dai Pai Dong”, I was just triggered to recommend all of you one delicious food stall located in Sham Shui Po called 愛文生 without English name.

This restaurant becomes my parents and I designated “Dai Pai Dong” as it provides a variety of good quality Hong Kongese seafood, entrees and poultry in stir-fry, deep-fry, poach, bake and so forth cooking methods.

The sophisticated chefs feel like in the performance stage.
It operates open-kitchen style, gourmet can obviously see how they perform in shaking the pan and the whole cooking process.

“Razor Clams with  BlackBean Sauce”
              豉椒炒蟶子

The clams are fresh mixed with a bit spicy sauce to greatly add up your appetite.

Another delicious dish,
“Mantis Shrimp with Spicy Salt and Pepper”
椒鹽瀨尿蝦

This deep-fried dish best accompanies with beer to eat, but keep reminded that doing body movement before eat.

Strong recommended to try to dine out here to feel how early Hong Kongers’ lifestyle and enjoy typical Hong Kongese food! Take Action now!

This restaurant has also awarded numerous good comments, scores as below provided by the popular food seeker, Openrice.com.
