SPD 3159 Food: Japanese Buffet -Murakami Teppanyaki Japanese Restaurant 村上鐵板日本料理

Last Thursday was my friend’s birthday. We had Japanese buffet in Mong Kok in order to celebrate her birthday. We chose a Japanese restaurant called Murakami Teppanyaki Japanese Restaurant. It is near the ladies market. We arrived there around 6: 45p.m. because if we arrived before 7p.m, there was a special price. The price could be reduced 10 dollars per person.

There are a variety of food, sashimi, snacks appetizers, hot pot, U-don, rice, skewer, tempura, gilled, Sushi, hand roll, etc.

We ordered a lot of sashimi, like salmon, octopus, shrimp and squid and herring. They were fresh and in thick- slice.

They are the chicken wing skewer, gestle skewer, chicken meat skewer, sausage and cherry tomato. We thought that the gestle skewer was a little bit hard. However, if your teeth are healthy, you can try. Actually they tasted good.

What is more, we ordered these foods too.

Let’s give some ratings to this restaurant in terms of food, service, environment and price.

Food:★ ★ ★ ★
Service:★ ★ ★
Environment:★ ★ ★
Price:★ ★ ★ ★

( 5 ★ is the highest score)

I thought that the food in this Japanese restaurant is quite delicious. The food was made immediately when they receive any orders so they were fresh. Moreover; there were over 100 choices for you to choose. As for drinks, you can order as much as you can. You can choose Coca, Sprite, Rebina, beer and sake etc.

The service is average, they sometimes missed our orders. However, the waiter or waitresses were polite.

The restaurant was clean but there were many people. Therefore, it was a little bit noisy.
The price is reasonable. It costs $159.5 including 10% service charge. There is good news for the birthday boy and girl. If there are 4 to 7 people, you can enjoy the half – price offer.

SPD3159 Food: Dai Pai Dong 大牌檔

Dai Pai Dong, Central, Hong Kong
Dai pai dong is a type of open-air food stall once very popular in Hong Kong. The government registration name in Hong Kong is "cooked-food stalls", but Dai pai dong literally means "restaurant with a big license plate", referring to its size of license which is bigger than other licensed street vendors.
History
Unlicensed food stalls, which provided cheap everyday food such as congee, rice and noodles to the general public of humble income, appeared in as early as the late 19th century in Hong Kong. The stalls could be found not only in Central, but also in Wanchai and the peripheries of Happy Valley Racecourse around Wong Nai Chung Road. In fact, the great fire at the racecourse in 1918 was caused by food stalls set beside the podium. There were also stalls assembled by piers, which formed the so-called Waisik Matau (為食碼頭 lit. "Gluttonous Pier"),  to serve ferry passengers.

After World War II came to an end in 1945, the colonial Hong Kong government issued ad hoc licenses to families of deceased and injured civil servants, allowing them to operate food stalls in public and thereby earn a living. This kind of license was considerably larger than the ones normally issued, as a photograph of the licensee was required to appear on them. The license, therefore, was jocularly called "dai pai" (big license) by the locals. From then on, the "big license stalls" began to flourish on every busy street and lane in Hong Kong.

However, dai pai dong soon became the cause of traffic congestion and hygiene problems, and some licensees even began to let out their stalls on the black market. In response, the government stopped issuing new "big licenses" in 1956, and limited their transfer. The licenses could no longer be inherited, and could only be passed on to spouses upon the licensee's death. If the licensee did not have a spouse, the license would simply expire.

Since 1975, many dai pai dong have been moved into temporary markets, like the ones on Haiphong Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, or into cooked food centres, usually located in municipal services complexes managed by the Urban Council, for easier control. In order to improve worsening public hygiene, the government began to buy back "big licences" from the licence-holders in 1983. Since most of the licensees were aged, and the licenses are only legally transferable to their spouses, many of the licensees were willing to return their licenses for compensation. Since then, the number of traditional dai pai dong has declined rapidly.

Today, most dai pai dong survive by operating in cooked food centres, while the more successful ones have reinvented themselves as air-conditioned restaurants (some of them keep their original stalls operating at the same time, like Lan Fong Yuen (蘭芳園) in Gage Street, Central).

It was reported that revenues of dai pai dong increased considerably in 2003 when Hong Kong was plagued by SARS; as people regarded air-conditioned places as hotbeds of the virus and patronized open-air and sun-lit stalls instead.

SPD3159 Food: Tam Chai Yunnan Rice Noodle restaurant

Do you have tried this restaurant before?
Today I want to introduce to you is Tam Chai Yunnan Rice Noodle restaurant. Up to now, there have more than 20 branch store locate in Hong Kong. They mainly provide rice noodle with spicy soup and snack.

Some people say
“Tam Chai Rice Noodle like a drug”
I can’t agree with this statement more. After my first time try it, I can’t forget what this taste is. One of their products is rice noodle with sour and hot soup. The spicy is not so peppery hot but also can excite your tongue. The sour soup may attract your appetite. You must want to go back and try it again.
Actually, their spicy soup can classify in different level. You can choose the level you can accept.

They also provide some snacks.
What I recommend all of you; it must the bandit chicken wing. Even it may have a little bit oily, but the taste is much better. You can sniffed the aroma when the chicken wing is delivering.

SPD3159 Food: WRIGLEY'S 5 GUM PULSE - Sugar free?

Recently,I chew the gum everyday. But I have a question that is it really sugar free? You know all ladies are all concern about this important thing.I surfed on net to find out the answer.

The truth is that government labeling rules dictate that sugar-free products must have less than 0.5 gram of sugar in a serving, and no-sugar-added foods can't contain added sugar. To add sweetness without sugar, some of these products use sweeteners called sugar alcohols, such as sorbitol, which contribute to the carb count but not as much as sugar.Oops..should I stop to chew them?

I did review of the 3 different flavors, rain, pulse and cobalt.I liked the bright packaging,it looks trendy and cool.In fact, the packaging really drew me in. It's different from the normal chewing gum packaging. Also, I love the color of the wrappers, yellow, green and blue!

Cobalt
The blue one smelled fresh and cooling. The gum did not really smell like anything special at all,is like a normal minty gum.But the mint is better to me,which is not too spicy!

Pulse
The yellow one was sweet and fruity. That's  texture stayed nice and get sweet for at least 15 minutes. It tasted did not really like tropical fruit, but I can't say I dislike it.

Rain
The green one 's name is so cool!It called rain..Compare with the cobalt ,which is less minty.I can say there was just a mildly minty flavor. In general, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't really good.

I know there are other flavors of 5 gum in oversea  market, hey! my friends, can you bring me some? = P

Potato chips, sweets and chocolate are most of the Hong Kong people favorite food. For younger, have you ever thought that what did your parents like to eat when they were young? For elder, do miss the food that you always buy when you were children? In this article, I would like to introduce the Hong Kong traditional food to the teenagers and recall elders’ memories.

Traditional candy & coconut wrap
Traditional candy &coconut wrap was found since Qing Dynasty. It has a long history. It was made of maltose and thin pancake. Firstly, melt the maltose. Then, pull and drag the maltose by using a stick till it turns write. Next, freeze the maltose. At that time, the maltose looks like the front of spring onion. Therefore, in Chinese, it called " Sugar onion pancake". Finally, put the maltose, peanut, desiccates coconut on the pancake and roll it.It is soft on the outside but crispy on the inside.

Today, it is hard to find traditional candy &cocount wrap. However, you can find it near the Exit A of Yau Ma Tei Station and near the Tai Po KCRC Station.

Chinese style white sugar steamed cake
Chinese style white sugar steamed cake is white and sweet. It takes time and effort to make this dessert. The steps are as follows.

First of all, put whisk rice flour, water and sugar into a mixing bowl. Cook them until the mixture has become thick. Then, use a sieve to filter the mixture and leave to cool. Mix the yeast and warm water and add them in the cooled rice mixture together with the baking powder. Stir and combine all the ingredients. Rest it for 8 hours. Grease a steamer and put the rice mixture into it. Steam it for about 20 minutes.

Nowadays, it is difficult to find traditional Chinese style white sugar steamed cake because some of them taste sour. However, there is a shop in Shum Shui Po, called “Kwun Kee”. It is famous for Chinese style white sugar steamed cake. The shop owner said that they can sell more than two hundreds pieces a day.

Black Sesame Roll
In 70s and 80s, it was easy to find “film roll” in many Chinese restaurants. Black sesame roll looks like film roll. That is why it also called “film roll”. It is a refrigerated desert. It tastes sweet. The texture is smooth and soft.

Black sesame roll has seven layers. The first step is to stir-fry black sesame. Next, put them into a stirring machine and add some water. Put whisk rice flour, water chestnut flour, sesame oil and “black sesame water” into a bowl. Mix them together. Then, put the mixture in a plate and form a thin sheet. Cool the “black sesame sheets” individually. Make seven levels and roll them up as sesame roll.

It sounds tasty? Why don’t you buy these Hong Kong Traditional food right now?
